Be Last First!

But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Matthew 19:30

Matthew 19:16-30

Do I value anything above perfection and above entering into eternal life?

Have I deluded myself into thinking I love my neighbor as myself?

Do I think Jesus required too much of the young man?

Am I glad Jesus doesn’t say the same thing to me?

Or does He?

Since it impedes entering into the kingdom of heaven, why get more stuff?

Do I doubt my reward for having forsaken all to follow Jesus?

What’s the solution to unbelief in all this?

“Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?” (Matthew 19:27).

Discerning the Star

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

Matthew 2:10

Reading:

Matthew 2:7-9, 16-23

As the wise men, Herod wanted to find the Child, that One born King of the Jews:

“And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also” (Matthew 2:8).

The wise men wanted to worship the Child; Herod wanted war with the Child.

Is my spirit this season in worship of the Child or is it at war with the Child?

On this business of searching, consider this: the Child wanted to be found!

“When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was” (Matthew 2:9).

The Child indeed wanted to be God with us!

He still does.

I want to remember to acknowledge Him today.
