She said she is thankful for pain that drives her to God. Wow!

At our congregation’s morning Thanksgiving Day service, one sister stood and as part of her testimony declared that she’s thankful for pain that drives her to God.

Wow! 😯 Amazingly, I believe she actually meant that. And even more amazingly, I think I understand what she means…and I think I’m disposed to agree with her.

I remembered that again when I read this early this morning:

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. —Psalm 119:71

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. -Hebrews 5:8

We suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. -Romans 8:17,18

He knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. -Job 23:10,11

Thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee. Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. -Deuteronomy 8:2,5,6

Daily Light on the Daily Path

From my reading yesterday morning:

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. —Psalm 119:18

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. -Luke 24:45

It is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. -Matthew 13:11

I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. -Matthew 11:25,26

We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. -1 Corinthians 2:12

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand. -Psalm 139:17,18

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? For of him, and through him, and to him are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. -Romans 11:33,34,36
