Reading:
Deuteronomy 31:1-8

Moses had been on a mission for God for some forty years.

Now the time had come for Joshua to assume that Moses’ task of leading the children of Israel.

To put it another way, Joshua was being commissioned for a new mission.

Jehova, ever so sensitive and gracious toward the needs of His flock, had Moses deliver a message to Joshua:

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed” (8).

Lord, I need that message, too!

Matthew 8:23-27

Not, “No faith” — little faith. (Those fellows did have something going for them, see?)

“And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish” (25).

They had sufficient faith to go to Jesus.

They had sufficient faith to awake Jesus.

They had sufficient faith to petition Jesus.

But their faith was still little: We perish.

Lord, increase my faith!

Oh, and by the way: notice two other things in this passage:

  • “His disciples followed him” (23).
  • “And his disciples came to him” (25).

It’s what disciples do!
