Reading:
Proverbs 5:15-23

“Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well” (15).

Guys, if the girl isn’t your wife, keep your hands off.

Gals, if the fellow isn’t your husband, keep your hands off. (And his as well!)

Kissing, holding, handling, hugging, fondling, cuddling — even that, if between non-spouses, violates the above verse. In my opinion.

Even if I indulge in it “only” in my mind, I have sinned. Jesus said so.

As the world’s standards of morality continue their downward trend, I purpose to be faithful to my God and to my wife.

As the church herself becomes increasingly lax in far too many instances, I purpose to keep up my guard.

It’s tough.

Reading:
Proverbs 5:1-14

“How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

“And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!” (12, 13).

He came to his senses too late to avoid the terrible consequences of his immorality.

(If I read the passage literally.)

Or of his closed-to-wisdom heart.

(If I read it figuratively.)

In whatever sense I read this passage, I must have my ear attentive to truth and wisdom.

I want to stay far away from evil, lest it seduce me:

“Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house” (8).

Rather, I purpose to give careful, consistent heed to verse 7:

“Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.”

I say, “Yes!”
