Proverbs 17:11-19

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (17).

Let that be I!

Sure, I want a friend who loves me at all times.

Sure, I want a brother who stands by me in adversity.

But I also want to be that friend and brother to another.

Even when my friend fails (or merely grates on me), I want to love him.

Even when my friend is terribly down and unpleasant to be around, I want to be faithfully at his side.

Proverbs 17:1-10

I’m not very open to correction. 🙁

I tend to resist it.

I can explain and defend myself.

I can see the messenger’s shortcomings. (At least I no longer fight fire with fire.)

But I’m working to have heart that’s open and tender to rebuke and reproof and correction. Like this:

“A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool” (10).
