Reading: Luke 2:36-51

I’m a few weeks from Birthday Number Forty-Eight.

Seven years later is the Senior Citizen Hurdle.

And ten years after that comes the Social Security Retirement Threshhold.

Anna was way past all those.

“And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day” (37).

Though of great age, she hadn’t retired from serving God.

For some reason, that really challenges and encourages me this morning. (My prime and all the open doors of my Early Thirties are quite a ways behind me.)

Whatever my age, I can still serve God with fastings and prayers, night and day.

But I don’t.

Why not?!

from Luke 2:49

A little bit more from Luke 2: “He Is Here!”

Reading: Luke 2:21-35

He held the Lord in his arms when He was an eight-day-old baby, knowing He was the long-awaited Messiah.

Wow!

However, in my reading this morning, this verse fragment caught my attention:

“And he came by the Spirit into the temple…” (27).

I want to be like Simeon that way — propel-able and stear-able by God’s Spirit.

Not just to the meeting place of God’s people.

But wherever God wants me to be at any given time.

That only comes from continual surrender to Jesus.

And from ongoing contact with Him.

And growing in awareness of Him.

Like this:

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6).

And this:

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye” (Psalm 32:8).

That’s the life for me!
