“And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not” (Exodus 20:20).

My relationship with God should be the principal thing that keeps me from sinning.

“Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold” (Exodus 20:23).

The children of Israel eventually fell into such idolatry that they used idols in their worship of Jehovah.

In this verse we have the record of the prohibition God had imposed on them against just such a perversion of the worship which is pleasing to Him.

I should not imagine that it would be possible for me to follow the Lord while I am allowing myself an idolatrous relationship with that which is of this world.
