Reading: Luke 11:29-44 |
In a figurative sense, my eye brings light to my body. I can think of my eye as a window through which light enters my being.
“The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light: but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness” (34).
When I think of a single eye, I think of an eye with a single focus.
In other words, it isn’t a wandering eye.
It knows what is good and right and pure, and stays focused on that.
I imagine a single eye as a loyal eye. It has determined not to stray from Jesus. (And when it does stray — which will happen — it returns promptly.)
That kind of eye keeps the entire person in the Way.
I want both of my eyes to be single.
