Certain events or circumstances change us to such a degree that they become a milestone in our lives.
“Before such and so happened, I was like that.”
This morning I’m struck by the Psalmist mentioning something like that twice:
“Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word” (Psalm 119:67).
Then a bit later he mentions it again:
“It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes” (Psalm 119:71).
If I must be afflicted, I want to get the most benefit from it.
As they say, may it make me better, not bitter.
If affliction makes me more a person of the Word, then it should be worth it.
If.
Thanks for sharing. I am glad that something bad can be used for something useful. I worry about what bad God may allow in my life to make something good. I am glad that I can’t see ahead to the future though because if I could I may avoid all the bad I could and not get the good. Which wouldn’t be good. 🙂
