Here are two verses from Psalm 79, each followed by my translation from Spanish:
“O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low” (8).
“Do not remember against us the iniquities of our ancestors; let your mercies come soon to meet us, because we are very downcast.”
“So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations” (13).
“And we, your people and sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will sing your praises.”
I like the picture in verse 8 of God’s mercies “backtracking” through life to meet me right where I am, right when I need them. God has already walked the way ahead of me, so He knows what I need to get through what’s coming. And His uplifting mercies come running to meet me and accompany me.
