Save Even More on Amazon Shipping
Yesterday Amazon raised its Free Shipping threshold by 40% — from $25 to $35.
That makes Amazon Prime even more enticing.
Here are two excerpts from Amazon’s announcement: Changes to Amazon Free Shipping: Read it all

Amazon Gold Box Deals
Amazon’s Gold Box can have some pretty good deals.
- Every day, a Deal of the Day. For instance, today it’s half-price Merrell running shoes for barefoot women (or something like that).
- Then they have the Lightning Deals that change every hour or two or three or four. These deals are good for that time span or until they sell out, whichever comes first. Right now, the Foscam Pan & Tilt IP/Network Camera is going for $69.99 instead of Amazon’s usual $84.95. A count-up bar lets you know the percentage sold of available stock. A count-down clock lets you know how much time is left on the deal.
The next Lightning Deal is promoted as “Save on healthy, great-tasting snacks from Sahale Snacks.” But we’ll have to wait almost three more hours to see the link and the price. (Or you can see their regular offerings on the Sahale Snacks page right now.)
Oh, I don’t know if the Merrell’s are half off Amazon’s regular price or half off the MSRP. Whatever the case, today’s Gold Box price on them is $49.99. (The camera is discounted $14.96 from their regular price.)
“New Deals. Every Day.” But you have to keep checking. I was going to suggest my @MarkWentFishing Twitter feed, but I don’t tweet every deal change in the Gold Box.
Who knows, you just might strike it rich in Amazon’s Gold Box. 🙄
PS: When you enter Amazon using any of the above links, you zip a free-to-you commission to me on every purchase you make. Thank you! 😎
Amazon $100 Less Than Frys
I got my weekly (or is it more often than that) sales email from Frys. It has an enticing item or three! But I naturally got curious about Amazon’s prices for the same items.
- Canon PowerShot SX160 IS 16MP Digital Camera
- WD Elements 3 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive
- Patriot Xporter Pulse 32GB USB Flash Drive
- Canon PowerShot SX500 IS 16MP Digital Camera
Of those, two items were $100 less on Amazon!
Canon PowerShot SX160 IS 16MP Digital Camera
Canon PowerShot SX160 on Amazon
$179.99 + free shipping
Frys = $199.99 + free shipping 🙁
So on this item, Amazon beats Frys’ sale price . . . easily. Read it all
Pycnogenol for Your Asthma?
Just several days ago, a friend emailed me about some of his health struggles related to (he suspects) some sort of asthma.
So a headline this morning lassoed my attention and hauled me in: Pycnogenol Shows Benefits for Asthmatics. Read it all
Principles for Buying Your First Car
So you’re in the market for your first (or third) car. So sorry. 😥
OK, not really. I just didn’t want to say, “Congratulations!” 🙄
Whether you buy new or used, whether you buy something to last a long time or something to get you by for now, whether you buy with cash or with credit — use these five principles to help you weigh your options and make your decision:
- Don’t buy more than you need
- Try to avoid debt
- Don’t presume on income in the long haul
- Beware of pride
- Dependable first, looks last
That’s kinda skeletal, so let’s beef them up just a bit… Read it all
