Evolution at Work?

Hungry men attracted to heavier women

The connection is believed to stem from an evolutionary trait that links body size with health, the newspaper reported.

How that connects with this leaves me scratching my head:

A man’s taste in women depends on how hungry he is, according to research cited in British newspapers.

“A man’s taste”? What a terrible pun — unless this was a study of cannibals.

No, probably not.

The survey was carried out by researchers at Liverpool University and Newcastle University, surveying 60 university students . . . .

Well, anyway. Another day, another study.

(I thought of a modification of a common evolutionary statement, but my “sensitivity” keeps me from indulging.)

When Do Wars End?

What do you think of this assertion?

Wars end when both sides decide they can gain more from a negotiated settlement than from continued fighting.

I’m sure that’s how some wars end.

I thought others end when one side beat and the other side lost.

Whatever.

I was ready to finalize and publish this post . . . .

Then I came across this that seems to contradict what the above fellow wrote:

We are not going to beat this enemy unless we get serious about it.

So this guy thinks war is about beating. Somehow I doubt he meant scoring a diplomatic win.

Like I said, whatever.

Israel-Lebanon Tid Bits

Jewish immigrants arrive in Israel yesterday

WorldNetDaily: 3,000 Americans emigrate to Israel:

As rockets slam into Israel and Israeli reprisals force Lebanese to flee the border region and parts of Beirut, more than 3,000 American citizens are leaving the comfort and security of the United States to make war-torn Israel their home.

“What is the best answer to Hezbollah?” asked former Israeli prime minister and current opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu during a welcome address to the new citizens. “You are the answer to Hezbollah.”

Israel to allow direct flow of humanitarian aid into Lebanon:

Israel agreed on Thursday to allow humanitarian aid to flow directly into Lebanon as the the Israel Defense Forces continues to press a major offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas, officials said.

The aid will be brought by a French ship to the Lebanese port of Sidon, Defense Minister Amir Peretz said. Israel’s decision follows a United States request to open a “humanitarian corridor” that would allow ships to anchor on Lebanese shores to unload their supplies.

Israel has imposed a blockade on Lebanon but has not stopped foreign countries from evacuating their nationals.

WorldNetDaily: Dirty bomb rockets ready:

The British intelligence service MI6 has established that Hezbollah is poised to launch a new “rain of terror” on Israel with rockets equipped with “dirty bomb” nose cones, reports Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

“The nose cones will contain spent nuclear rods from Iran’s nuclear programme. The rods are wrapped with conventional explosives. The dirty bombs are primarily intended to create increased panic across an already nervous population in northern Israel,” claimed a senior intelligence officer in London.

Lebanese minister: Army may join fight if Israel invades:

Lebanon’s army – which so far has sat on the sidelines of theviolence raging in the country – will join the fight against Israel if Israeli forces invade the country, the defense minister said on Thursday.

“The Lebanese army – and I stress – the Lebanese army will resist and defend and will prove that it is an army that deserves respect,” he said.

For six years they wouldn’t take on Hizbollah as they said they would and yet now they will join Hizbollah against the Israelis? OK.

Radical preacher barred from rescue ship:

A radical Muslim cleric had his bid to evacuate Lebanon aboard a British ship rejected when officials blocked his return to the United Kingdom.

The preacher, who called for Muslims to rise up against Westerners, was frightened he would be bombed by the Israelis.

He was banned from returning to Britain after he was ruled “not conducive to the public good”. He fled the country in August last year in the wake of the 7 July bombings.

Time for Some Cynicism?

UN working on new deal between Israel and Lebanon:

The United Nations is working toward a new diplomatic arrangement between Israel and Lebanon that will be based on implementation of Security Council Resolution 1559, calling for the disarmament of Hezbollah, the restoration of Lebanese sovereignty, and the deployment of the Lebanese army to southern Lebanon.

Has Israel learned from the UN’s previous efforts at hoodwinking it?

Seems like some time back there were promises made regarding peace and security in exchange for leaving Lebanon and Gaza.

So Israel left.

Did they get the promised peace and security?

It appears not.

Or else my memory is bad.

Israel, beware!

Roughing It

Flies — would you like them here?

Ashley Marinaccio, 20, a college student from Long Branch, New Jersey, said the ferry was like a “floating refugee camp” with “tons of flies,” few places to sit or sleep, five toilets, a shortage of toilet paper and several ill passengers.

“It got really dirty,” Marinaccio said.

Or would you like them there…in Lebanon…where you lie in a crumpled, bomb-tossed heap…crawling all over you.

It seems a matter of perspective.

Just call me a fellow-complainer. 🙁

Above all, love God!
