NK Bridge for Sale?

Maybe a better post title would be something along the lines of “I Want to Be Fooled Again”. 😐

North Korea agrees to disable reactor by year-end:

North Korea has agreed to disable its Yongbyon nuclear reactor and provide a complete declaration of all nuclear programs by the end of the year, in a deal that won praise from U.S. President George W. Bush.

[snip]

North Korea also reaffirmed its commitment not to transfer nuclear materials, technology or know-how, the statement added.

Whatever the post title, I think I put it in the right category.

Lured Kids?

This is amazing:

It matters to the security of people here at home if we don’t work to change the conditions that cause 19 kids to be lured onto airplanes to come and murder our citizens.

Perfect Soldiers: The 9/11 Hijackers: Who They Were, Why They Did It

Kids, Mr. President?

Lured?

That is stunning to me.

And when it comes to causal conditions, were none of those fellows educated and such?

And what about those other “kids” more recently in trouble in the UK? You know, those doctors?

Amazing.

I really do think Mr. Bush or Tony Snow or somebody at the White House needs to clarify that. (But it probably can’t be done.)

Speedy Global Warming

How did they get stuck up there?!

They cling precariously to the top of what is left of the ice floe, their fragile grip the perfect symbol of the tragedy of global warming.

Captured on film by Canadian environmentalists, the pair of polar bears look stranded on chunks of broken ice.

Can it be that the melting is happening so fast that these polar bears got caught up there?

Please humor me and allow me my doubts in this day of photo manipulation.

The photo reminds me of one of the pages in Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose.

Bowing to Islam Posed Photo?

Maybe I am misinterpreting this:

Pope Benedict tried on Sunday to calm Muslim anger at his remarks on Islam, saying he was “deeply sorry” about the reaction and that medieval quotes he used on holy war did not reflect his personal views.

The head of the world’s 1.1 billion Roman Catholics stopped short of the full apology or retraction demanded by some Muslims for a speech they say portrayed Islam as tainted by violence. It was unclear whether the Pontiff’s words would end the backlash.

Somehow this strikes me as kowtowing to Islam.

And once again we see the irony of a violent Muslim response to having their religion “misrepresented” as violent.

Five churches throughout the West Bank were attacked by Palestinians wielding guns and firebombs.

Firebombings left black scorch marks on the walls and windows of Nablus’ Anglican and Greek Orthodox churches. At least five firebombs hit the Anglican church and its door was later set ablaze. Smoke billowed from the church as firefighters put out the flames

Update: Hey, wait a minute! While this post was uploading, I was looking a little more at the above photo and suddenly thought within myself, “Is this another posed photo from the West Bank? That fire hose appears to be going right through whatever ‘fire’ the water is being sprayed toward.” Then there’s the matter of missing flame flicker. But I’m not a fireman, so maybe this is normal.

Berlin Wall

Yeah, I know — we’ve heard this before about the proposed wall on the US southern border.

Critics compare it to the Berlin Wall and say it goes against the American spirit of openness, sending the wrong message to the rest of the world about the United States.

The Berlin Wall? Where’s the historical accuracy in that comparison?

  • I haven’t heard that the House bill includes shoot-to-kill orders.
  • I haven’t heard that the intent of the House bill is to keep Americans in the US.
  • I haven’t heard that the House bill acknowledges that the current border between Mexico and the US is an artificial, foreign-imposed border dividing a single country from itself.

Berlin Wall, indeed.

And as far as sending the wrong message to the rest of the world about the US . . . . Protecting national sovereignty, promoting national security, and enforcing domestic laws are all part of a wrong message? Yes, if you believe that the concept of nation-states is an antiquated idea that must give way to the new world, one world order.

How about a bit more from the story:

But the U.S. Department of Homeland Security described the planned barrier, which would run for 698 miles, as a “stupid fence . . . .”

Oh wow!

Immigrant welfare groups are also critical of the proposal, and point to the fact that past policing crackdowns such as “Operation Gatekeeper” in the San Diego sector in 1994 only succeeded in rerouting the flow of immigrants to more remote and dangerous areas of the border.

“Nothing has actually succeeded in slowing down the number of migrants crossing the U.S. border,” said Rev. Robin Hoover, president of Tucson-based welfare group Humane Borders.

“The fence is just another gimmick that will just expose migrants to greater danger,” he added.

Does the fact the illegals make the choices that expose them to greater personal danger somehow obligate the US to make their illegal deeds less hazardous?

In that case, the logical conclusion is that the Border Patrol’s big buses ought to be used to ferry illegals north from the border instead of south to the border. Have the US agents meet the illegals at the normal (ie, safe) crossings, not with entry applications, but with bus tickets, meal vouchers, and motel passes.

OK. 😯

Is It My Eyes?

Or is there something fishy about this photo?

OK, I wasn’t going to post anything more today, but I saw this photo this story:

A Shi’ite man is held by friends as he shouts during a mock funeral for victims of a shooting incident at a mosque in Baghdad March 27, 2006. (Ali Jasim/Reuters)

Maybe it is just my eyes.

That guy sure seems like a giant, all out of proportion to the other guys.

Maybe it’s just the camera angle, but why doesn’t anyone else seem similarly enlarged?

Above all, love God!
