Antidote for Turmoil, Fear, and Unrest

Just what many of us need in the wake of the 2020 US Presidential election

Three days have passed since America’s Presidential election of 2020. Even now, not all ballots have been counted yet. Others have been counted at least twice. And probably hundreds of thousands have been counted that shouldn’t count toward any official tally.

At this stage, only God knows who will be the next President of the United States. And only God knows why He has chosen that man and for what purposes. Of this we can be sure: God’s will shall certainly be accomplished. The man He has chosen in absolute righteousness will be the next United States President.

I remember the Bush-Gore election Florida mess of 2000. Gore’s litigation dragged on for over a month before the US Supreme Court stepped in and essentially forced the whole thing to end. And finally Bush was certified the winner.

Over a month and in only one state, folks! And what is happening now is on a far greater scale than that. So…we shall see. Meanwhile, here are some excerpts from a piece I wrote on November 12 of that year:

Fear, anger, suspicion, bitterness, hatred — these sentiments abound all over the country. And the signs are that these personal and national poisons are spreading with a swiftness that mounts as the suspense and the waiting mount.

Does the current political and legal turmoil and uncertainty unnerve you? What fears harass your soul?

I have a simple message for all readers, but particularly for Christians.

Lean on Jesus!

This does not mean denying the existence of those things that provoke fear in our hearts. Nor does it mean trying to convince ourselves that such factors do not disquiet our souls.

It does mean making the conscious choice to change your focus from the problems to the Master. And it means doing this as frequently as the fearful, disquieted, unsettled feelings strike.

My friend, no matter what happens in the United States, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). And keep in mind “that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will” (Daniel 4:17).

So, dear Christian, ask Jesus to give you peace, hope, and joy. All around you are fearful people; how can you help them by pointing them to Jesus…if you also are fearful?!

Remember, the more unsettled the world becomes, the more attractive becomes our hope in Jesus.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15).

Peace!

I invite you to read that article in its totality: My Peace I Give Unto You.

Why are you so fearful? (Matthew 8:26)
