Pumpkins or Church Doors — What Are You Pounding On?

On this Day: October 31

Halloween

More like hollow eve.

May all our evenings be hallowed.

And all our days too.

As we acknowledge Him in all our ways to the praise of His glory (Proverbs 3:6; Ephesians 1:12,14).

emphasize the Reformation over Halloween

Reformation

He pounded on the church door, did Martin Luther. In doing that he kickstarted what we now remember as the Protestant Reformation.

That was 502 years ago today.

Is the church today well advanced beyond the need for further reformation?

Am I in need of transformation?

Who will pound on the door in our day?

So there you are.

If you want to celebrate anything today because it’s October 31, celebrate the Reformation. And remember the Radical Reformation that got “officially launched” less than eight years after Luther hammered home his ninety-five theses.

Where is your neck relative to truth and error?

Are you not wielding your hammer for truth because you are not yielding your neck to the cause of truth?

Hmmm…

I should turn the above into a blog post. (Clarification: This was originally an email to our congregation.)

Since I never did finish my own theses to post (two years ago during the 500th anniversary).

But I have too many other pending writing projects, including an overdue ebook (the first compilation of several years’ worth of youth pages) as well as the project that pays consistently (which is writing high school curricula for CLE).

And now some other October 31 blog posts…
