Jobs: Calling the Sub-Educated

Where jobs and higher education don't intersect very well. Or often enough. Ten of the fastest growing occupations don’t even require a high school diploma.

I’m on break right now, so I’ve got something to tell you that won’t take much of my time.

But first, I should explain the title.

I have a “progressive” friend who speaks of those on the side opposite of his as “regressives” and “retrogressives” (as I recall). 😯 At least he doesn’t call them “congressives” — now that would be condescending. 😆

Well, my title is kinda like that. Except it isn’t.

For this post, sub-educated speaks of those with a formal education well south of college. People like me, in other words. 😉

What’s really interesting is that only five of the top 30 occupations expected to create the most jobs by 2020 require a college degree or more nursing, post-secondary teachers, elementary school teachers, accountants and physicians, and ten of the fastest growing occupations don’t even require a high school diploma. Moreover, of the top nine occupations expected to create the most jobs this decade, only one nursing requires a 4-year college degree.
