That was yesterday.
By evening I had noticed…
- The US Embassy in Cairo was attacked.
- Israel’s Primer Minister couldn’t get a visit scheduled with the US President.
- An American Consulate in Libya was attacked.
This morning early I learned that the American Ambassador to Libya had been killed along with three other American personnel.
And right away I figured the conservative radiosphere and blogosphere and printosphere would be blazing, boiling, and steaming today.
Just like I figured the liberal counterparts won’t be standing idly by, just taking it.
I also wondered how this impacts…
- The US Presidential campaign.
- Israel’s plans for Iran.
On the first item, in normal times, a sitting US President would be hard put to survive this politically toward the end of a “close fought” reelection bid.
On the second item, I don’t see how Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government (and countrymen?) can see American “impotence” in defending its own interests in Egypt and Cairo…and conclude it’s safe for Israel to wait…and count on American protection and assistance.
Another angle that fascinates me here (OK, maybe that’s overstated) is the fact that Egypt and Libya are the two Arab (are Libyans Arab?) countries most recently “liberated” from long-term dictatorships…with American encouragement and/or assistance.
Well, I imagine there’s a lot of BDS and BDS II raging out there today. The left is likely finding ways to implement a “It’s all Bush’s fault” approach and the right is likely lashing out with the current edition of the “Barack is an incompetent, unpatriotic President” perspective.
Folks, we live in times of great peril…with the worse yet to come.
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows” (Mark 13:8).
How does that affect you?
And if you’re a Christian, how does it affect your praying?
