When I fall before God in utter brokenness for my sin, His forgiveness and cleansing and restoration are utterly complete.

Even when I sin to the depth that David did: lust, immorality, deception, treachery, murder, and hypocrisy all wrapped up in a single case.

But only when I am broken and repentant can I confidently cast myself on God’s mercy.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions” (Psalm 51:1).

I wouldn’t dare cast myself on the mercy of others, especially certain others.

By the way, I wonder how many people put me in their “certain others” category!

So having received so abundant mercy, let me show mercy to other sinners.
