What McAfee failed to prevent in real time and what Malewarebytes Anti-Malware failed to detect later:
So I was twice disappointed.
That said, I’ll continue to use McAfee and Malwarebytes along with Spyware Doctor. They each have their role and place in protecting my computers. (Although I suppose that I’ll eventually replace McAfee with Microsoft Security Essentials.)
For some of the other software I use: Mark’s Computer Software of Choice.
Important additional note: I use the free versions of Malwarebytes and Spyware Doctor.
PS: If I don’t forget, I’ll update this post with a screen capture of the final results of the scan in progress shown at the top of this post.
Update 1: So this is why the free version of Spyware Doctor just sat on my computer, unused! 🙁
So I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. The quick scan found nothing. For the last 3 hours and 45 minutes (and counting), it has been plowing its way through a full scan….
I am very skeptical of antivirus software that scans for free but requires payment to remove what it finds.
You’re very skeptical. I’m very do-not-like-it. And when they don’t tell you that in bold, up-front fashion before you endure a four-hour scan, well, then being merely very skeptical is being very generous. “Bah hum bug!” he declared in closing.
